Areas of Expertise
Elder Law
Elder Law" or "elder care law" is the area of practice that includes a wide range of legal issues that arise as a person ages.
Medicaid and Asset Protection
At its most basic, Medicaid is a federal program, administered at the local level, that will pay for long-term care if a person’s available funds for care are within the Medicaid program limits.
Special Needs Planning
Special needs planning involves working with people with disabilities and their families to navigate the public benefit system and secure necessary services, as well as estate planning to preserve eligibility for such benefits.
Estate Planning
Estate planning is not just about what happens after you die. Everyone over 18 needs estate planning, including powers of attorney and other documents such as a will or trust.
Guardianship
Guardianship is a court process of appointing a decision-maker for someone who lacks the ability to make their own decisions, lacks appropriate estate planning such as powers of attorney, and is at risk of harm if a guardian is not appointed. We also represent people in challenging their guardianship or reviewing the conduct of a guardian.
Probate & Trust Administration
When a person dies or becomes incapacitated, there is a process involved to collect and manage assets and to distribute them according to the person’s wishes. This may be a probate matter in court, or a trust administration outside of court.
